How to connect a CCTV camera with POE Switch

CCTV cameras are essential nowadays for all security needs, from homes to businesses. The security camera acts as an eye that sees everything, even when you are sleeping. Now let’s know the steps to connect a CCTV camera to a power over Ethernet (PoE) switch.

1. Check the compatibility of your CCTV camera and PoE switch.

First, we need to make sure that the camera is compatible and supports the PoE switch. The security camera needs to be an IP camera in order to send network and internet traffic at the same time.

  1. Connect the Ethernet cable to the provided slots.

Use an Ethernet cable to connect the PoE switch’s PoE port to the CCTV camera. Ensure the cable is securely connected to both the switch and the camera. The light starts to blink as soon as it gets connected to the CCTV camera.

  1. Power up the PoE Switch.

Plug in the PoE switch to a power source to power both the switch and the connected CCTV camera through the Ethernet cable. The lights start to blink as soon as they get connected: yellow for connectivity and green for power connection.

  1. Check the connection of the CCTV camera and PoE switch.

Verify that the CCTV camera is receiving power and is connected to the network by checking its status lights or accessing its configuration settings. Yellow light is for connection, and green light is for power connectivity. The light starts to blink as soon as it gets connected.

  1. Configure the camera (if necessary).

If your CCTV camera requires configuration, access its settings through a web browser or dedicated software to set it up according to your needs. But the Prama camera gets automatically connected to the PoE switch without any need for configuration.

  1. Test Connection

Test the camera’s connection by accessing its live feed through the appropriate software or device. See that the camera is exerting the output on the monitor without any interference. You can also use the Prama Online app and access it remotely.
